Valentine James Fink was born in Colchester the 3rd child of Peter and Elizabeth in the 3rd quarter of 1860. A master baker by trade, he was also a special constable and played the flute.
Valentine James married Jane Saunders in 1883 and they had six children. They were:

Valentine James was known to live at Maryland Point, London E.15 at one point in his life. He spent his last days at 8 Park Close, Didcot, with his son Valentine John, laid to rest at West Ham Cemetery on the 13th April 1950 aged 90.
Valentine John (Jack) Fink was born in Bethnal Green London. Enlisted in the RAMC. Militia 20th March 1901 at Aldershot. He then joined the Royal Army Service Corps on the 15th July 1902 again at Aldershot. Served at Woolwich, Norwich and Colchester where he met and married Lilly Annie Henderson in 1908 where they had two sons.

The children moved with their parents in postings to Edinburgh, London, while Jack was in France, then Dover, Malta, Chatham, Tilbury and Wantage.
Valentine John Fink’s children
- Walter Valentine Bertram, known as Bert married Mary Gill at Lambourn in 1931. They had three children.
- Horace James Norman married Margaret Constance Cromack in 1937. He was in the Royal Berkshire Regiment having enlisted on 11th January 1926 serving initially in fife and drums then bandsman playing the clarinet and saxophone in postings: Germany (Bingen) India (Fyzabad) (Naina Tal) (Karachi). Enlisted on the 11th April 1938 in Kings Own Lancaster Regiment in Aldershot, later transferred to the Royal Military Collage Sandhurst Band. Moved to Hastings in Sussex in1966 as a Civil servant with the Ministry of the Environment. Horace and Connie had three children.
A theme of musical and artistic talents runs through the descendants of Valentine James who played flute. His son Valentine John played Clarinet, Saxophone and was a photographer. His great grandsons played instruments, Bert the banjo and painted, Horace the clarinet, saxophone and drums.
