Badger Cull Update

From the latest newsletter of the IFAW* :

“More than 158,000 people have so far signed the petition opposing the cull.
And in response to the overwhelming number of messages opposing the cull, Parliament has decided to hold a debate on the topic next Thursday, 25 October.
Now to take the next step in stopping this misguided and cruel slaughter.
IFAW and partner groups in the Team Badger Coalition are holding a special Lobby event next Wednesday (24 Oct) – the day before the debate. And they’d like you to attend and tell your MP in person what you think of the proposed cull.

Please join IFAW’s team, campaigner Brian May, and IFAW coalition in conveying to MPs these two critical messages:

  1. That the cull would cause unacceptable cruelty as badgers would suffer slow and painful deaths, and;
  2. That many experts don’t believe the cull will succeed in halting the spread of bovine TB. In fact, they warn that it may actually spread the disease as injured and frightened badgers flee the hunters and move to new areas.

If you are able to go, please contact your MP now and ask them to meet with you at the event. The peaceful lobby event will last from 12.30pm to 4.30pm. You are welcome to attend for all of that time, but please ask your MP when they are free to meet in that window of time.
Please come in through the main visitor entrance and head to Committee Room 12 where IFAW staff and other supporters will be gathered. During the event, you’ll be able to hear from Brian May and a variety of scientists and experts on the issue.
If you are unable to attend the event, you can still send a message to your MP urging them to stand against the cull.
We’ve already succeeded in getting Parliament to debate the cull – now let’s join together to make sure that badgers have a voice in it.
Thank you for your support.”
